About Me.

Designer, educator, and advocate for the craft of visual interface design

With over 15 years of experience in digital design, I've dedicated my career to championing the discipline of visual interface design—what I call VX (Visual Experience) Design—at the intersection of aesthetics, interaction, and systems thinking.

Currently, I lead the UI design practice at Publicis within the Epsilon UX Product Design team, where I've spent the last five years evolving CORE UI, Epsilon's enterprise design system, into a mature, scalable platform that serves teams across the organization. My work focuses on component architecture, visual design standards, and building the bridges between design and engineering that make great products possible.

Teaching & Advocacy

Beyond my day work, I'm passionate about design education and mentorship. I teach at Columbia College Chicago, where I help students navigate the intersection of game design, UI systems, and visual craft. I also write and speak about the evolving role of UI in product design, advocating for the recognition and advancement of visual designers in an industry that often undervalues specialized craft in favor of generalist roles.

Side Projects & Creative Work

10 out of 10 Card Game
Co-designer of this successful Kickstarter-funded party game about opinions, rankings, and friendly arguments. A cooperative experience where players attempt to guess secret numbers by sharing their takes on everything from pizza toppings to existential questions.

Night City Games
Currently collaborating on a VR horror experience for Meta Quest, exploring how immersive environments and game UI converge in virtual reality.

Pizza Donut Creative Co.
My independent design studio for experimental work, client collaborations, and creative explorations that don't fit neatly into corporate or academic boxes.

My creative practice extends beyond digital interfaces into fine art and game design, where I explore visual storytelling, interactive experiences, and the intersection of traditional and digital media. Through my art work, I investigate themes of identity, culture, and the human experience, often incorporating screen printing techniques and mixed media approaches. In game design, I focus on creating meaningful player experiences that blend compelling narratives with intuitive interfaces, whether in tabletop card games or immersive VR environments. These diverse creative outlets inform and enrich my professional design work, bringing fresh perspectives on visual communication, user engagement, and the power of well-crafted experiences.

Design Philosophy

I believe that UI design is a distinct discipline that deserves recognition, resources, and respect. In an era where "UX/UI" has become a catch-all term that often undervalues visual craft, I advocate for specialist roles that allow designers to develop deep expertise in interaction patterns, visual systems, and the nuanced details that elevate digital products from functional to exceptional.

My approach blends systematic thinking with creative expression—building design systems that provide structure without sacrificing the flexibility teams need to innovate. Whether teaching game UI fundamentals, evolving enterprise component libraries, or designing card games, I'm driven by the belief that thoughtful visual design makes experiences more intuitive, more delightful, and more human.

Beyond Design

When I'm not designing interfaces or teaching, you'll find me exploring game design theory, screen printing, diving into comic book history, or advocating for Chicago's design community through organizations like AIGA Chicago. I'm based in Chicago and always open to collaborate, learn, and advocate for better design practice.
